Local bowling phenom to compete on international stage after making national history
Folsom’s own Ernesto Reynoso has once again earned national recognition, this time by being selected to rep the United States at the 2025 PANAM Bowling Youth Championship in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The prestigious selection was announced this week by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), with Reynoso being one of just eight athletes chosen to represent Junior Team USA in international competition.
Reynoso, a Vista del Lago High School student who has already become a household name in youth bowling circles, joins Brandon Bohn of Jackson, New Jersey; Josh Hammons of Topeka, Kansas; and Landin Jordan of Sycamore, Illinois, on the men’s team. The women’s team includes Gianna Brandolino of Channahon, Illinois; Erin Klemencic of Powder Springs, Georgia; Jillian Martin of Stow, Ohio; and Annalise OBryant of Ball Ground, Georgia.
The team will be led by USBC Hall of Famer and Junior Team USA head coach Kelly Kulick, with Andy Diercks serving as assistant coach.
The 2025 PANAM Youth Championship will take place from August 9–16 at Metrobowl Zone 15, a 28-lane center in Guatemala City. Official practice sessions and the opening ceremony are scheduled for Sunday, August 10, with singles competition in the U16, U18, and U21 divisions starting the following day. Doubles play will be held on August 12, followed by trios and mixed doubles on August 13. Team competition will take place August 14–15, with the tournament’s closing ceremony concluding the event.
This international tournament will mark Junior Team USA’s second major outing of the year. In June, Katelyn Abigania of San Diego and Connor Fleming of Fort Worth, Texas, competed in the International Bowling Federation Youth World Cup in Helsingborg, Sweden, where they placed 10th and 23rd respectively.
For Reynoso, the PANAM Championship selection is another major milestone in what has already been a record-setting career. Just last year, he made junior bowling history by becoming the first youth athlete to win back-to-back Junior Gold National Championship titles across two different age divisions. He captured the U15 title in 2023, then followed it up with a dramatic win in the U18 division in 2024.
In his most recent national title run, Reynoso defeated top-ranked competitors in high-stakes matches, including a final-round showdown that ended with a clutch strike in the 10th frame to secure victory. “I expected a lot from myself because I know I’m capable of it,” Reynoso said at the time. “I know I can strike more than anyone out here and held myself to high expectations.”
That confidence and dedication helped earn Reynoso a spot on Junior Team USA, where he’ll now represent not just Folsom, but the entire country on one of youth bowling’s biggest international stages.
For those wishing to catch him in action, the event will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network on August 13 at 2 p.m. Check local listings for availability.
