After the latest round of ballot counts from the March 5 election by Sacramento County Elections, Folsom City Councilmember Rosario Rodriguez has strengthened her lead in the race for Sacramento County Supervisor.

Following Tuesday’s latest numbers release, Rodriguez holds 50.80% of the votes among the three candidates as she inches closer to securing the seat without the need for a runoff. No runoff takes place in the county race if a candidate holds 50% of the votes “plus one,” once all ballots are counted and ready for certification.

Rodriguez, a former mayor of Folsom and local business owner, is vying for the seat being vacated by retiring longtime County Supervisor Sue Frost, who endorsed Rodriguez simultaneously with her retirement announcement last year. Sacramento County’s 4th District includes the communities of Citrus Heights, Folsom, Orangevale, Antelope, North Highlands, Rio Linda, Elverta, and Rancho Murieta.

Updated counts now show Rodriguez ahead of Citrus Heights Mayor Bret Daniels and fellow Folsom resident Braden Murphy. While Rodriguez inched up to the 50.80% mark with an updated vote count of 24,550 votes to her name, Daniels now sits at 27.833% with 13,207 votes being reported. Murphy has claimed 10,569 putting him at the 21.87% mark in the race.

So far, Sacramento County Elections reports that by Friday afternoon, it has counted 239,319 ballots, with an estimated 10,000 ballots or less yet to be counted in district 4. While the Supervisor race has a significant spread, one race that remains close is that for the Sacramento Mayor, where Flojuane “Flo” Cofer continues to lead with 25.76% of the vote over Richard Pan, who has 22.64%, and Kevin McCarty, who has 22.41% of the vote.

The next round of Sacramento County Elections ballot updates is slated to be released this Friday at 4:15 p.m.

In the race for California’s 7th Assembly District, Folsom resident and incumbent Josh Hoover’s lead has increased slightly as well. According to the State of California Elections office, Hoover has 52.2% of the votes. It appears the former Folsom School Board member will face Democrat Porsche Middleton, who has 29.9% of the vote, in November. Folsom resident and city councilmember YK Chalemcherla holds 17.9% of the vote in the assembly race.

District 7 includes the cities of Citrus Heights, Folsom, and Rancho Cordova, and the unincorporated communities of Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Foothill Farms, Gold River, Mather, McClellan Park, North Highlands, Orangevale, and Rosemont.

The results in this article are based on progressive election data reported at the dates and times detailed above. While this Folsom Times article highlights results of the aforementioned candidates who are residents local to the city of Folsom, there are numerous other races of interest across the county and the state with updates forthcoming.
