For the first time in seventeen years, Sutter Street Theatre took three weeks off from performing to do some upgrades in the theatre. We are improving sight lines, evening out our risers and improving our lighting and sound systems to enhance your experience of our following 2023 season of shows and events.

On January 20 we will kick off our Off-Broadway Series with one of our most popular shows, the hilarious Escanaba in Da Moonlight. Written by Jeff Daniels and Directed by Connie Mockenhaupt who along with husband Mike Jimena are the founders of Sutter Street Theatre. Connie also had the honor of being one of the recipients of a Sacramento Regional Theater Alliance Lifetime Achievement Award. The last time we presented the show we were invited to perform in the Bootleg Theater in Hollywood. LA Fashion Magazine’s review stated that the “Boys from the North teach the Snobs from the South how to laugh”. A guaranteed two hours of irreverent laughter. Two members of that cast are reprising their roles in the new production, Jerold McFatter (The Jimmer) and Mike Jimena (Albert Soady).

The Family Series also opens with one of our most popular shows Alice in Wonderland. When we started the Family Series this was our first show. It has also toured to many Schools in Northern California but will be returning this year with a full run with a complete set and lighting making it a great family fun experience.

Our Off-Broadway Series next stop is Agatha Christie’s, Murder on the Orient Express with added material from Ken Ludwig which adds a little humor to this great show opening March 3.

We have four Master Workshops for 8 – 18 years old every year. The Spring Workshop is Heathers, designed for our more advanced student performers with a more mature subject matter. There are still a few spots left in this workshop with performances beginning March 11. The rest of the workshops are: Seussical Kids in July for the younger ones, Frozen Jr. and lastly Shreck the Musical in November.

On April 14 the classic comedy Harvey opens. This is performed in our longtime partnership with Janelle and Steve Kauffman and their “Give Us a Hand Productions”. On April 22 we open, in our Family Series, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs directed by our long time Artistic Associate, Allen Schmeltz. Allen is also a Lifetime Achievement Award Winner from the Sacramento Area Theatre Alliance. Snow White opens on April 22nd.

Next in the Off-Broadway Series is the classic musical Cabaret. Opening May 26, it is still as important and exciting as it was when it opened in the 60s. Another Musical, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown opens June 3 in our Family Series. After that our next two shows of the Season in the Off-Broadway Series is Monty Pythons wacky Spamalot, followed by the classic On Golden Pond, this one also with support from “Give Us a Hand Productions”.  Then we bring the fun filled production of Cinderella Redux to our stage opening on September 2.

Extra, Extra Evil Dead The Musical tickets are finally on sale! Evil Dead kicks off its 13-year September 29. Paired with Evil Dead in the October slot is the classic family thriller The Legend of Sleepy Hollow opening October 7.

Our final two shows of the year are for the Holiday Season. In our Family Series we have a wonderful musical called The Quiltmakers Gift directed by Allen Schmeltz. We close our 17th Season with the 18th Annual Holiday in the Hills a musical about the people who lived or visited Folsom in the late 1880s. All the music is Holiday themed, and it’s guaranteed to put you in the Holiday Spirit or your money back.

All together that makes 18 different productions to see at Sutter Street Theatre. But that isn’t all, we also have on the first Saturday of every month at 11:00am, the “Storybook Time” where Lindy Malonee leads some of our actors in a presentation for the Tiny Tots. Stories are read, songs are sung and even some dancing takes place. There is no cost for these we just want everyone including the little ones to love theatre.

If that isn’t enough, every second Saturday at 4:00pm we have an “Olde Tyme Radio Show”. Set in a Radio Recording Studio, we use the original scripts from many different Old Time Radio Programs such as Fibber McGee and Molly, Gunsmoke, The Shadow Knows, The Bickersons, Our Miss Brooks and many others along with the sound effects from a Foley Artist and music, sung by the cast, from the 1940s – 1960s. This performance is only $10.00 and there is enough time at intermission to go down to the corner and get something from Snooks Candies.

Tickets may be purchased at our website, www.SutterStreetTheatre.com or by calling (916) 353-1001. We also have Flex-Tickets for sale which provide you with a discount and the flexibility to use them all for one show or for any combination of shows.

We hope you can come and enjoy a season of shows and events at Sutter Street Theatre in the heart of the vibrant Folsom Historic District.  See you at the theatre.
