High School football entered week 8 of its 10 week season and the fourth week of conference play in the CIF Sac Joaquin section Friday night. When it came to teams in the Folsom area, three out of the four local squads brought home significant wins for the week.
The Folsom Bulldogs hosted longtime Loomis rival Del Oro at Prairie City stadium. Bulldogs improved their season to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in league play as they kept Del Oro from ever getting on the scoreboard Friday night. The loss added to an already tough season for the Golden Eagles that now fall to 1-6 overall in 2024 and 0-4 in league play. Folsom travels to Whitney for the second to last game of the regular season this Friday.
Vista del Lago improved its season to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the Capital Valley League where they now rank third Friday night. Vista hosted Woodcreek, 3-4 in league play, and took advantage of errors made by the Wolverines in the second half to pull ahead on the board with a 28-24 win. Vista has he next week off and will host Ponderosa next on Oct. 25.
Cordova traveled to Antelope Friday night. The Lancers took early ownership of the game with six in the first. The Titans picked up their game before the half with 17 on the board but were scoreless in the third compared to Cordova’s eight. The fourth quarter saw Antelope put 14 on the board to win the game with a final score of 31-14. Cordova is now 5-2 in Metropolitan League for the season and will face Destiny Christian next week.
Back to Sierra Foothill League action up the highway in El Dorado Hills, the Oak Ridge Trojans had a strong night against the Jesuit Marauders. After both teams went scoreless in the first quarter then each put three on the board in quarter to enter the break tied. Oak Ridge came out of the locker room strong, putting 13 points up in the third quarter and another 7 in the fourth to end the night with a 23-3 win. Oak Ridge is now second in the league where they are 3-1 on the season and 3-4 overall. They will travel to Davis Sr. next Friday.
Granite Bay traveled to Whitney Friday night in a game that started off looking like both teams would be strong on the board with the Grizzlies putting up 14 and the Wildcats answering with 10. Granite Bay controlled the rest the game with a combined 28 points in the second and third quarters followed by another 7 in the fourth to end the night with a 49-10 win. Granite Bay is now 6-1 overall and 3-1 in league play where they are third overall behind Folsom and Oak Ridge.
