After nearly a two-year long investigation amongst multiple agencies, investigators from the Folsom Police Department have arrested a former Folsom hospital staffer for embezzlement, grand theft and tax evasion.
Branden Vandersys, 33, a former local resident who most recently resided in Redding, was taken into custody by the Redding Police Department after a warrant was issued for is arrest following the lengthy investigation Vandersys was originally hailed in Redding, but has now been extradited to the Sacramento County Jail, according to information provided by the Folsom Police Department Tuesday.
In investigation began in March of 2022, according to the department. At that time a representative from Mercy Hospital of Folsom had reported and an employee, later identified in the investigation as Vandersys, was suspected of stealing medical equipment. Vandersys was a reportedly a Materials Management Technician for Mercy Hospital in Folsom at the time of the reported crimes.
The Folsom Police Department, with the assistance of Mercy Hospital, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, and the Franchise Tax Board initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. The lengthy investigation determined that Vandersys allegedly embezzled products and equipment which cost the hospital over $700,000.
According to Sacramento County Jail records, Vandersys was transferred to Sacramento on Wednesday and remains in custody with bail currently set at $707,060.00. He is facing charges of Felony Grand Theft consisting of: money, labor, real and personal property. He also faces one charge of felony tax evasion. He is set to appear in Sacramento County Superior Court Thursday, Jan. 31 at 3:00 p.m.
