Jennifer K. Morita has written for the Sacramento, Paradise Post and Stockton Record before authoring her new book
The Folsom Public Library will host a local reporter-that has written for several area newspapers before becoming a mystery author in a special speaking engagement this weekend. Jennifer K. Morita will be the speaker this Saturday, March 1, at 2 p.m. in the library’s meeting room. Morita will discuss her transition from journalism to fiction writing, sharing insights into her research, writing process, and personal journey from newsroom deadlines to crafting compelling mysteries.
Morita, who has written for The Sacramento Bee as well as The Paradise Post and The Stockton Record will introduce her debut novel, Ghosts of Waikīkī, which has been nominated for both a Left Coast Crime Lefty Award for Best Debut Mystery and a Malice Domestic Agatha Award for Best First Novel.
Ghosts of Waikīkī follows an out-of-work journalist who returns to Hawai‘i to ghostwrite for a controversial developer. But when a family patriarch turns up dead under suspicious circumstances, the protagonist quickly realizes that returning to paradise may be more dangerous than expected.
“Folsom Public Library’s local author series is one of the many ways we connect residents to new information, skills, and each other,” said Library Director Thomas Gruneisen. “Jennifer’s journey is a great example of the hidden stories within us all—and the hard work it takes to bring them to life.”
The Folsom Public Library, located at 411 Stafford St., invites all community members to attend the event, which is free and open to the public. Local author talks provide an opportunity for readers and aspiring writers to gain insight into the world of fiction and mystery writing. Copies of Ghosts of Waikīkī will be available for purchase and signing.
