Folsom’s 50 miles of scenic bike trails, including several kid-friendly routes, make biking an increasingly popular family pastime. As spring approaches, families can gear up for the upcoming bike season at the Family Bike Rodeo, happening March 8 at Dan Russell Arena.

The fun, free family event, sponsored by Clipped In For Life, will feature an exciting lineup of activities, including an obstacle course, pixie bike races, a kids’ bike swap meet, bike safety stations, games, and hands-on workshops. Everything is designed to help families learn to ride safely, ride smart and ride joyfully.

“There’s no better place than Folsom for cycling, and we are thrilled to bring these resources to our community,” said Clint Claassen, co-founder and executive director of Clipped In For Life. “This is an incredible event for the whole family, designed to particularly engage kids and build excitement around biking.”

The Family Bike Rodeo is an excellent introduction to cycling, helping kids gain new skills and discover the joy of biking. Families who attend can also learn about Grip Academy—an after-school cycling program for kids ages 4 through eighth grade.

For all proficiency levels, Grip Academy goes beyond basic bike handling skills, incorporating essential elements of traffic safety, bike maintenance and technology, first aid, stewardship, and physical fitness.

“Grip Academy opens up the world of cycling for kids so they can grow, play and thrive in a healthy outdoor setting,” Claassen said. “Our goal for the program is to ignite their passion for biking, empowering them to adopt this lifelong activity that boosts physical and mental health, reinforces valuable life skills, and builds community.”

Whether preparing for the upcoming bike season, just learning to ride, or looking for a fun outdoor event for the family, the Family Bike Rodeo will provide resources for everyone. The free event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Dan Russell Arena in Folsom on Saturday, March 8. Kids are encouraged to bring their bike and helmet, but demo bikes and loaner bikes will be available. Learn more at www.clippedforlife.or/rodeo
