The doghouse, otherwise known as Prairie City Stadium was packed for the second straight Friday night at the Folsom Bulldogs hosted local rival Oak Ridge in the first round of Sierra Foothill League play for week 7 of the 2023 season. 

Entering Friday’s game, the Oak Ridge Trojans were looking to end a 19-game losing streak of to their longtime neighboring rival that goes back to 2006. The Bulldogs protected their house and ended those hopes with a 42-21 victory.  That victory was far from secured until the final minutes, on the scoreboard, however, as the Trojans gave it all they had in an effort to end their longtime drought against Folsom.

At halftime, the Bulldogs headed to the locker room with a touchdown advantage. When they returned, they continued the wild game that ended up being tied at 14 entering the fourth quarter.

After a tight game throughout the first half of the game, Folsom went to the locker room leading by a touchdown. Returning for the second half, the Bulldogs found themselves tied with the Trojans entering the fourth quarter. It was then that the Bulldogs turned up the heat and eventually pulled away. 

Folsom’s Ryder Lyons was good for an impressive 379 yards and delivered to receiver Brian Ray III for a total of three touchdowns. In all, Lyons was good for five total trips across the line in the night. The Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter with just over 4 minutes on the board.  It was then that Lyons executed a pass to Ray for an 18-yard touchdown that gave the dogs a 28-14 lead.

The duo wasn’t finished just yet. Lyons ran the ball on the third down at the 15-yard-line when the Trojans stopped Ray. The move resulted in an 85-yard play. Damion Rivera then made a 30-yard run to bring the final score to 42-21.  

Following Friday’s win, Folsom is now 4-2 in the season overall, 1-0 in league play. Oak Ridge is 5-1 overall, 1-0 in league.

Vista shuts out El Camino 56-0

Just up the hill, Vista del Lago was celebration homecoming Friday night, hosting El Camino. Vista celebrated big, keeping El Camino off the board with a 56-0.  The victory extends Vista to 6-1 on their strong season so far. 

With Friday’s win, Vista del Lago is now 3-0 in Capital Valley League competition and 6-1 on the season overall. They will travel to Del Campo this next Friday night.

Cordova falls to Foothill

The Cordova was on the road Friday night facing Foothill. The tough season start for the Lancers extended into another week as they fell too Foothill 38-14.
