Just one week remains until history is celebrated in a unique way in Historic Folsom as the inaugural “Making History” will bring the community together to eat, create and celebrate, all in an interactive fashion while raising funds for Folsom History and the history museum. It all takes place Thursday, April 25.
“Crafting and art are one of the biggest parts of the world’s history,” says Shelby Sorensen, Museum Manager of Folsom History. “Today history museums are finding more ways ways to engage the general public with history. History is continuously created and passed down generation to generation. We have to remember history is today and we are making it ourselves.”
The evening will be filled with culinary delights, creative demonstrations, and community celebration at The Square in Historic Folsom, which has been formerly known as Pioneer Village, near the Historic Folsom train depot.
“We believe that The Square is a wonderful place in a community like Folsom to bring people together, reminiscent of how historic squares thrived and brought people together,” said Rita Mukherjee Hoffstadt, Executive Director of Folsom History. “We look forward to activating the area in the heart of Historic Folsom on a more frequent basis.”
Attendees will be able to sample local wines and array of cuisines from around the world, courtesy of local chefs and food vendors and enjoy live entertainment. For beer enthusiasts, Red Bus Brewery will be serving some of their beer and discussing the art of beer making and how to set up your own home brewery.
The event will feature foods from local restaurants including Visconti’s, Bacchus House, Hop Sing, Scott’s Seafood and more. In addition to local beer tastings, local wines will also be on hand for enjoyment by attendees.
Several businesses have donated items for a silent auction and fundraiser for Folsom History, among the items already secured will be artistic pottery, jewelry, dining at local restaurants, a new television, professional services and more.
On site demonstrations will include a variety of different activities from pottery making, blacksmithing, carding and spinning demonstrations, there’s even a planned activity on home brewing for beer lovers and more.
The April 25 Making History event will take place from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m and is a 21 and over affair. Tickets for the event are $50 and available on the Folsom History website at www.folsomhistory.org/makinghistory where you can also learn about event sponsorship opportunities. Current sponsors for the event include Adrian Blanco Jewelry and USI Insurance. The Square is located at 196 Wool Street in Historic Folsom.
