FOLSOM — What began as a moment of heartbreak for an 88-year-old Folsom resident ended in relief and quiet joy this weekend after police recovered a stolen diamond wedding ring that held a lifetime of memories.
According to Folsom Police, on Saturday, Dec. 13, the woman reported that her wedding ring — an irreplaceable gift from her late husband — had been stolen. The loss went far beyond its monetary value. For the victim and her family, the ring represented decades of marriage, love and shared history, making its disappearance especially devastating.
Folsom police immediately began investigating the theft. Through follow-up interviews and careful investigative work, an officer identified a potential suspect. The investigation progressed quickly and ultimately led to a confession.
The following day, the officer met with the suspect, identified as Pita Porter, 46, of Sacramento, who had been serving as a care provider for the victim at the time of the theft. During that meeting, the officer successfully recovered the stolen ring and returned it to police custody.
Porter was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges of burglary and elder abuse. Authorities said the case highlights the vulnerability of elderly residents, particularly when trust is violated by someone in a caregiving role.
Most importantly for the victim and her family, the cherished ring was returned to its rightful owner less than 24 hours after it was reported stolen. Police said the reunion brought comfort and a sense of closure to the woman, who feared the sentimental piece had been lost forever.
The Folsom Police department expressed gratitude for the officer’s diligence and compassion across social media, noting that the recovery restored more than property — it returned a deeply personal symbol of a life shared and loved.
