Sweet Dozen Cones, a unique dessert shop known for its creative sweet cones and homemade donut creations, has announced it will close its doors on August 4. Located on Folsom’s Sutter Street, the shop has been a part of the city’s Historic District now for six years.

Located at 807 Sutter Street, Sweet Dozen Cones opened to great fanfare, with eager customers lining up to indulge in their signature churro-donut cones. Baked fresh every morning, these cones quickly became a local favorite. The unique preparation involves rolling the dough into strips and wrapping it around wooden pins shipped from Slovenia, a country where this type of dessert is quite popular.

Sweet Dozen Cones was one of the first in the Sacramento region to offer these pastry cones, dusted with Oreo crumble, toasted coconut, or crushed walnuts instead of the traditional cinnamon and sugar. They were filled with Dannon’s chocolate and vanilla bean YoCream gelato and offered in various delightful flavors such as S’mores, Matcha Dreams, Cereal ’n’ Milk, Sticky Mango, and Apple Pie A La Mode.

This week, the shop announced its impending closure on social media, sharing a heartfelt message with its loyal customers. Although the statement did not specify a specific reason for the closure, the emotion behind the words was clear they have exhausted all efforts to continue.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the closing of our family business, Sweet Dozen Cones, after six years of operation. We have made the difficult decision to close our doors,” the statement read. “Our last day of business will be on August 4th, 2024. We would like to express our appreciation to our customers for their support over the years. We are proud to have served Historic Folsom. While we are saddened by the closure of Sweet Dozen Cones, we are grateful for the memories, relationships, and experiences we have gained throughout the years. We will cherish these as we move forward.”

Nuny Cabanting and her brother Jeremy founded Sweet Dozen Cones in September 2017, inspired by their parents’ doughnut shop on Madison Avenue in Sacramento. The name “Sweet Dozen Cones” pays homage to the donut side of their family business, blending tradition with innovation.

At this time there are no known plans for what may occupy the space once it becomes vacant after Aug. 4. Until then, the shop will continue to operate so locals can get one last savory treat before they are gone.
