As the number of Holocaust survivors dwindles, locals have a rare opportunity to hear the first-hand account of Margot Goldberg, who survived the Holocaust as a young girl next week as she makes a stop to speak in Folsom.
Goldberg will be speaking at the Folsom Community Center in Folsom. The evening will be hosted by KFBK’s Cristina Mendonsa and is being presented by the sponsorship of Style Media Group, the Law Office of Marcus J. Lo Duca and Scott Yull Farmer’s Insurance.
Margot Goldberg, a 97 year old resident of Palo Alto, CA, lived through the horrors of Kristallnacht, when the Nazis stormed into her home, demolished furniture, shattered heirloom china, and arrested her father, who was taken to a concentration camp. Miraculously her family arranged for her to join the kindertransport, the English initiative that saved 10,000 Jewish children from deportation to concentration camps. Margot’s father took her to the train station to say goodbye. She never saw him, her mother, or most of the members of her family again.
The evening will be hosted by Cristina Mendonsa of News 93.1 KFBK and is presented by the Chabad Jewish Community Center of Folsom & El Dorado Hills and Chabad of Placer County. Margot will share her story of survival, with a question and answer session to follow.
“It’s an honor for us to host Margot and we’re so fortunate that she has agreed to come to Folsom in person to share her riveting story,” said Rabbi Grossbaum of Chabad. “I encourage everyone who can — young and old — to come hear this remarkable person tell her incredible story of courage, faith, and survival.”
Tickets are available in advance, a limited amount of tickets will be available at the door.

About Holocaust Survivor Margot Goldberg
Margot Cohen Goldberg was born in the western German town of Dusseldorf, home to a large extended family that had lived in Germany for centuries. Margot lived an idyllic childhood until the Nazis rose to power. Margot vividly remembers the horrors of Kristallnacht, when the Nazis stormed into her home, demolishing furniture, shattering heirloom china, and arresting her father, who was taken to a concentration camp.
Kristallnacht underscored the enormity of the Jews’ situation. Although Margot’s parents had obtained exit visas, the obstacles to leaving became insurmountable. Unable to escape themselves, they were able to find space for Margot on the kindertransport, the English initiative that saved 10,000 Jewish children from deportation to concentration camps. Margot’s father took her to the train station to say goodbye. She never saw him, her mother, or most of the members of her family again.
