RANCHO CORDOVA – Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies have been on the scene of an active standoff Tuesday in a Rancho Cordova neighborhood after receiving reports of gunfire and threats involving possible booby traps, prompting evacuations in the area, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched shortly before 11 a.m. to reports of gunshots in the Kavala Ranch community near Anatolia, specifically in the area of Copper Sunset Way in Rancho Cordova. An initial caller reported hearing gunfire in the neighborhood.

Sheriff’s officials said a second call followed shortly afterward, during which a man claimed responsibility for firing the weapon and told dispatchers he was actively placing booby traps at the location. Based on that information, deputies initiated a large-scale response.

Multiple units from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, along with Rancho Cordova police, are on scene, and the situation remains active with SWAT team members and specialized equipment deployed throughout the neighborhood.

As a precaution, nearby homes are evacuated while law enforcement works to secure the area. Authorities are urging residents to avoid the neighborhood due to the heavy law enforcement presence and the ongoing operation.

No injuries have been reported as of late Tuesday morning, and officials have not released information regarding any arrests. The sheriff’s office has not confirmed whether explosive devices have been located, but said the reported threat is being treated as credible while the standoff continues.
