FOLSOM — Motorists traveling through one of Folsom’s busiest corridors will encounter a full road closure early next month as crews take on a key phase of the city’s ongoing Water Infrastructure Project. Iron Point Road will be closed between East Bidwell Street and Cavitt Drive from 9 p.m. on November 2 through November 7 while crews install a new section of water pipeline beneath the roadway.
The closure will temporarily halt through traffic in both directions, with detours in place along Broadstone Parkway and Cavitt Drive. City officials advise drivers to allow extra time for travel and to use caution in the area as crews work through the multi-day construction effort.
The upcoming closure is part of the City of Folsom’s larger Water Improvement Project—an ambitious infrastructure investment designed to strengthen and modernize the city’s water delivery system. The project includes the construction of a new 24-inch pipeline that will ensure reliable and redundant water service for Folsom residents and businesses, addressing both current and future supply needs as outlined in the city’s Water Master Plan and Urban Water Management Plan.
According to city staff, the new pipeline begins at an existing pipe junction at East Bidwell and Iron Point, just north of Highway 50, and will ultimately extend north toward the city’s Water Treatment Plant on Natoma Street. The route follows the rail and trail corridor along East Bidwell, continuing up Oak Avenue Parkway through the Oak Parkway Trail area.
While the overall project will improve reliability for all customers, it also directly supports the ongoing development of the Folsom Plan Area south of Highway 50. That portion of the work is funded entirely by Community Facilities District No. 18 bonding proceeds, meaning no funding is drawn from neighborhoods north of Highway 50.
Construction activities include potholing, pipe installation, tie-ins, pavement restoration, and trail improvements such as grading, drainage updates, and tree protection. Crews have already completed portions of the work along East Bidwell Street near Oak Avenue and Scholar Way and reopened the Oak Parkway Trail earlier this summer following several months of construction.
As the city enters this next phase, temporary traffic impacts will continue to be part of the process. Work hours typically run Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., though extended or overnight hours like the upcoming Iron Point closure may occur to meet deadlines or reduce daytime congestion.
