FOLSOM — Rodeo week is here, and Folsom is gearing up for one of its most exciting nights of the year. This Saturday, October 4, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Rodeo gallops back into the Dan Russell Rodeo Arena for its second annual showcase of western competition, family fun, and community pride.

After a strong debut last year, organizers promise the 2025 edition will be bigger and bolder, offering fans of all ages a chance to experience the pageantry and adrenaline of the rodeo under the arena lights. The evening begins with a patriotic Grand Entry Welcome and carries straight into a packed program of non-stop action.

The lineup includes Pro-Am Team Roping, Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, and the fast-moving Hide Race. Fans will see both Saddle Bronc and Ranch Bronc riders put their skills to the test before the bulls are turned loose for the night’s most anticipated event. For the youngest cowboys and cowgirls, mutton busting will once again bring big cheers as 10 riders, chosen earlier this week through a lottery drawing, attempt to hang on to their sheep across the arena floor.

This year also marked the debut of the first-ever Sacramento Sheriff’s Rodeo Queen Pageant, an exciting new tradition that celebrates leadership, community spirit, and Western heritage. Hosted by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Foundation, the pageant will crown young women who will serve as ambassadors for both the rodeo and the values it represents—honor, service, and community pride. The pageant reflects the Foundation’s mission to support the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and strengthen community ties. Beyond law enforcement, the Foundation works to prevent youth gang involvement and drug use while building positive relationships between the Sheriff’s Office and the community. This event honors tradition while investing in a safer, more connected future.

Between competitions, fans can expect specialty rodeo entertainment to keep the crowd laughing and engaged. The evening will close with live music and a fireworks finale over the Folsom sky, ensuring that the Sheriff’s Rodeo delivers not just action, but a celebration of heritage and community.

While the rodeo thrills the crowd, its purpose runs deeper. Proceeds support the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that funds scholarships, provides resources for deputies and their families, and backs programs that help keep kids safe and engaged. By attending, fans aren’t just enjoying a show—they’re supporting a mission to build a stronger community.
