Fun, free family event kicks off an exciting day of cycling along Sutter Street
FOLSOM—Tiny tires and big smiles will take over Historic Sutter Street in Folsom this Saturday morning as the Kids Balance Bike Bash rolls back into town. Held in conjunction with the return of the Mother Lode Epic mountain bike race, the Balance Bike Bash is a free, fun-filled event designed to introduce young riders to the excitement of cycling in a safe, playful environment.
Set for Saturday, June 7 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., this family-friendly event will temporarily close down part of Historic Folsom to make way for dozens of kids, ages 3 to 6, who will take on a pint-sized course lined with creative, kid-friendly challenges. These include a bubble wrap “rock garden,” a pool noodle wall, and mini rumble strips — all designed to make the course both fun and accessible for young riders on balance bikes.
Participation is free and open to the public, with no advance registration required. On-site sign-ups will be available the morning of the event. The Balance Bike Bash is organized by Clipped In for Life and supported by the Historic Folsom District.
The event offers families a chance to engage in an active, outdoor experience while being part of the excitement surrounding one of the region’s premier cycling weekends. As the morning event wraps up, attention will shift to the next big ride heading out of town.
Mother Lode Epic Brings Mountain Bike Thrills to Folsom and Beyond
Also taking place Saturday, June 7, Mother Lode Epic returns with a challenging and scenic 45-mile point-to-point course that begins in Historic Folsom and traverses the Sierra foothills. The course follows remote singletrack and forest trails with over 6,000 feet of climbing, making it a unique test of endurance for mountain bike riders.

Cyclists can take on the entire course solo or split the challenge with a teammate in a two-person relay format. Riders will follow a route that winds through Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, the Darrington Trail, Salmon Falls, Cronan Ranch, and the South Fork of the American River, eventually finishing near Coloma, the heart of Gold Country.
The Mother Lode Epic is one of only two single-day point-to-point mountain bike races of its kind in the United States, attracting experienced riders from across California and beyond. The event includes multiple support stations, technical assistance, and post-race celebrations that highlight the vibrant cycling community.
With its mix of family fun and competitive sport, Saturday’s lineup of events offers something for every level of rider and spectator. From toddlers learning the joy of balance to seasoned cyclists tackling steep ridgelines, Folsom’s Historic District will once again be the starting point for a full day of two-wheeled adventure.
