Multo, meaning ghost in Tagalog, follows a Filipino American bounty hunter chasing an undocumented Filipina who can disappear like a ghost. “The two protagonists are compatriots. The bounty hunter is legal while his quarry is undocumented. They’re in this country in pursuit of the American Dream, but their dreams are on a collision course,” explained Fazzi, a resident of Fair Oaks, CA.

Fazzi, a former Associated Press reporter, first wrote the manuscript that became Multo in 1995 when she was a green-card holder waiting for her U.S. citizenship. “My novel is not a documentation of my immigration experience but an offshoot of it,” she said. “The novel explores the common struggles and aspirations of recent immigrants, legal and undocumented alike, which boils down to the fundamental need for acceptance.”

The number of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. has grown from about 3.5 million in 1995, when Fazzi first conceived her novel, to about 10.5 million today. “The same problems that plagued our immigration system back then continue to exist today,” she added. “You’ll learn all about the politics of immigration in the news. Multo presents the pathos and even humor behind the news headlines in the form of a thriller.”

The author has worked as a journalist in the Philippines, Taiwan, and the United States. Multo is her first thriller. She is also the author of the historical novel My MacArthur, a fictionalized account of General Douglas MacArthur’s love affair with a young Filipino actress in the 1930s.
