Multiple injuries, one fatality reported in series of incidents in Folsom, Granite Bay

As inclement weather moved into the area and brought some much needed precipitation to the region Sunday night and into Monday, it also kept local first responders busy responding to a handful of traffic collisions in and around the Folsom area.

The most recent serious incident took place Tuesday evening on Auburn-Folsom Road around 10 pm. The collision involved three vehicles on the stretch of roadway just south of the intersection of Eureka Road. Because the incident was beyond the city limits line and in Granite Bay, South Placer Fire District was the lead agency on the incident. 

A total of three vehicles were involved in the collision. According to incident reports, two medic units were dispatched to the scene. A total of two patients were transported to local hospitals. The extent of their injuries was not released.

Earlier in the day on Tuesday, multiple units from Folsom Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to Lifetime Fitness at 110 Healthy Way in Folsom for a reported vehicle accident just before 10 a.m.

Upon arrival, first responders located a single vehicle on the pickle ball courts of the fitness facility. The vehicle was reportedly travelling on westbound Highway 50 when it veered off the roadway and travelled down the steep embankment. The vehicle reportedly drove through a planter box at speed before crashing through the fencing and coming to rest on one of the pickle ball courts. 

One male occupant was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Units from the California Highway Patrol also responded with Folsom Fire and Folsom Police. It was unknown at the time if the driver suffered any type of medical emergency that may have contributed to the accident in addition to the wet roadway conditions. 

Both Tuesday and Wednesday was a busy a day for Folsom Fire on the roadways. A non-injury collision occurred at 11:17 a.m. near the intersection of Prairie City Road and Iron Point Road. Just after 5 p.m. units responded to another collision on the 300 block of Hansen Circle in Folsom.

Wednesday morning crash on East Bidwell

In the morning hours Wednesday, two additional vehicle crashes occurred. The first was an injury accident with transports at the intersection of American River Canyon Drive and Greenback Lane. Units were originally dispatched at 1:10 a.m. and remained on scene for more than an hour. 

Wednesday morning just after 9:45 a.m. units were working another traffic collision in the city at East Bidwell Street and Coloma Street. At least one person was being transported with injuries in this collision, The collision blocks lanes of East East Bidwell for some time as first responders assisted the victim.

A Cameron Park woman died from her injuries after a high speed crash in Granite Bay in the early morning hours Sunday.

One killed in high speed Granite Bay Crash Sunday

Prior to the arrival of the rains, one person was killed in a high speed crash in nearby Granite Bay early Sunday morning. 

At approximately 1:15 a.m. the driver of the vehicle was reportedly seen traveling on Douglas Boulevard at more than 100 miles per hour. A Placer County Deputy in the area witnessed the woman driving at 130 miles per hour just moments before the crash. 

The vehicle travelled off of the roadway near Seeno Avenue. The vehicle rolled over and reportedly struck an electrical box and a cinder block wall. The victim,, who’s name has not yet been released, died at the scene, according the authorities.  The cause of the crash is ongoing and officers have not said if drugs or alcohol was suspected at this time. 

Following the crash, firefighters reminded motorists of the slick roadways ahead with the arrival of heavy rains. 

“With rain in the future forecast we advise people that the roadways will be slick and to be cautious while driving during this winter season,” they said.

Scattered showers are expected to linger in the area through Wednesday afternoon until skies clear for the remainder of the week and into the holiday weekend.
