FOLSOM – Construction crews are preparing to break ground on a new trail system in the growing Folsom Ranch community, as the City of Folsom launches the Mangini Ranch Trails Project on September 29.

The project will add approximately 2.5 miles of new Class I multi-use trails within the Mangini Ranch development, creating new connections for bicyclists and pedestrians in one of the city’s fastest-growing neighborhoods.

The trail alignment will stretch through an area bounded by Savannah Parkway to the north, East Bidwell Street to the west, White Rock Road to the south, and the Sacramento Placerville Transportation Corridor to the east. In addition to the trail construction, a pedestrian and bicycle-activated traffic signal will be installed at Savannah Parkway, providing a safe crossing near Alder Creek Elementary School and the planned Community Park East.

City officials estimate construction will take about nine months to complete. When finished, the project will link to the broader trail network in Folsom Ranch and provide residents with safe, accessible, and connected recreation opportunities.

Back in July, the Folsom City Council approved a $2.7 million construction contract for the project, awarding the bid to Consolidated Engineering after reviewing five proposals. The company’s bid was the lowest responsive offer, coming in under the engineer’s $2.9 million estimate.

The Mangini Ranch Trails Project has been years in the making. As part of the Folsom Plan Area and Mangini Ranch development approvals, more than 30 miles of trails are ultimately planned for the Folsom Ranch area. To date, about 10 miles of trails have been constructed. This new project will add another key section, furthering the city’s long-term vision for interconnected trail systems.

Funding for the project comes from a combination of city allocations and appropriations. The City Council previously approved a $180,000 contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates for design and engineering. In the 2022–23 budget, $2.2 million was earmarked for construction, followed by an additional $1 million in the 2024–25 budget. With adjustments this summer, the total approved budget stands at $3,669,275, with funds drawn from the Folsom Plan Area Capital Fund.

Folsom Parks and Recreation Director Kelly Gonzalez said sufficient funds are available to cover the total cost of the project.

When the trails open next summer, they will offer more than just recreation. City planners emphasized that the system will help connect neighborhoods, parks, and schools across the southern section of Folsom Ranch, enhancing safety and accessibility for the thousands of new residents expected to move into the development in the coming years.
