The walls of Powerhouse Entertainment will breath the blues this Sunday as Maxx Cabello Jr., one of the West Coast’s most dynamic blues guitarists and vocalists, brings his high-energy blend of rock, soul, and blues to the stage for this week’s Powerhouse of Blues spotlight in Historic Folsom. The show begins at 3:00 p.m., promising a charged afternoon of storytelling through sound.
Raised in San Jose and seemingly born with a guitar in hand, Cabello grew up steeped in music. Photos of him asleep in his father’s guitar case hinted early on at his future. His musical roots trace back to his father’s soulful Spanish folk ballads and blossomed under the mentorship of bluesman Jerry Rubalcava, who snuck young Maxx into blues clubs to catch the legends live. Cabello’s encounter with the great John Lee Hooker left a lifelong impression, shaping his humble, heartfelt approach to the genre.
Now a seasoned performer with a fiery stage presence and smooth vocal grit, Cabello describes his sound as “rock and soul”—a fusion influenced by guitar greats like Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. But make no mistake: his voice, style, and technical prowess are all his own. Whether sliding into a slow-burning blues riff or launching into a Latin-infused rocker, Cabello brings precision and passion to every note.
Over the years, Maxx Cabello Jr. has shared stages with heavyweights such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Tommy Castro, Morris Day & The Time, and Third Eye Blind. He’s performed at iconic venues like BB King’s Blues Club, CBGB’s, and even rocked the Oakland Coliseum during a Raiders halftime show. His performances have spanned the U.S., from festivals to cruise stages—and even a scheduled stint in the Virgin Islands.
His most recent single, God Is Good, released in late 2024, shows his continued evolution as a songwriter and performer. It follows previous releases like Tattoos and Blues (2017) and the fan-favorite My Love. Currently, he’s developing an ambitious two-part show concept titled Love & War, showcasing his dual sides: tender, soulful ballads balanced with explosive, guitar-driven blues-rock.
Expect a powerhouse performance filled with searing guitar solos, groove-heavy rhythms, and emotionally charged vocals. Whether you’re a lifelong blues fan or new to the genre, Maxx Cabello Jr.’s performance is one you won’t forget.
Catch Maxx Cabello Jr. live at 3 p.m. this Sunday, August 24, at Powerhouse Entertainment, 614 Sutter Street in Historic Folsom. Doors open early, and seating is first come, first served. All shows at Powerhouse are 21 and over. For tickets and more details, visit www.powerhousepub.com.
