National recognition highlights continued excellence in patient safety and quality of care
FOLSOM — Dignity Health Mercy Hospital of Folsom has once again earned national recognition for patient safety and quality, being named a Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group for the third consecutive year. The distinction is considered one of the most competitive honors hospitals and surgery centers in the United States can receive for their commitment to protecting patients and delivering high-quality care.
The winning facilities were recognized as part of Leapfrog’s 2025 Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner, where hospitals from across the country were honored for meeting the organization’s rigorous safety and quality benchmarks.
“Earning a Top Hospital distinction for the third year in a row is a remarkable acknowledgment of the safe, high-quality care our teams provide every day,” said Lisa Hausmann, president and CEO of Mercy Hospital of Folsom. “I am proud of our clinicians, nurses and staff whose commitment to excellence continues to elevate the experience for our patients and families.”
More than 2,400 hospitals nationwide were considered for the 2025 awards. From that field, only 156 hospitals were selected across four categories: children’s hospitals, general hospitals, rural hospitals and teaching hospitals. Mercy Hospital of Folsom earned recognition in the Top General Hospital category, placing it among a select group of facilities nationwide.
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit watchdog organization that evaluates hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers on how effectively they protect patients from preventable harm, including accidents, injuries and infections. Hospitals earning the Top Hospital designation must publicly report their performance through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and meet the organization’s highest standards for safety and quality. Measures include infection rates, maternity care outcomes and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors, among other critical indicators.
“Mercy Hospital of Folsom has distinguished itself through an unwavering focus on safety and quality, earning a place on this year’s list of Top Hospitals,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This recognition reflects a culture of transparency and continuous improvement—one embraced by every member of the organization. We commend the entire team at Mercy Hospital of Folsom for reaching this outstanding milestone.”
To qualify for the honor, hospitals must rank among the top performers in their peer group on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses adherence to the highest national standards for quality and patient safety. Hospitals must also achieve top performance within their respective categories. The full list of institutions recognized as 2025 Leapfrog Top Hospitals is available through The Leapfrog Group.
