Blacksmithing art showcase runs through February with live forge event closing the exhibition

Folsom History Museum is now hostingMetal as Medium, a traveling exhibition that explores blacksmithing as an artistic and expressive craft, highlighting both traditional techniques and contemporary metal design.

Metal as Mediumis presented by the California Blacksmith Association in partnership with the Templeton Historical Museum Society. On view through Feb. 28, the exhibition features metal artwork created by blacksmiths from around the world, blending time-honored forging practices with modern artistic approaches. The collection illustrates how forged metal can serve both functional and creative purposes while pushing the boundaries of traditional blacksmithing.

The exhibition will conclude Saturday, Feb. 28, with Forge Fest, a public blacksmith expo held at The Square in historic downtown Folsom. The event marks the final day ofMetal as Mediumand coincides with the conclusion of Folsom History’s five-day Blacksmith Intensive course.

During Forge Fest, visitors will be able to watch blacksmiths working live at the forge as they complete final projects required to earn California Blacksmith Association Level 1 certification. The event is free and open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to visit the museum before the exhibition closes the same day. Admission for non-members to the Folsom History Museum will be $4.

The Folsom History Museum is located at 823 Sutter St. and is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit and closing festival offer an up-close look at metalworking for those interested in art, craftsmanship, and local history.
