A Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crew is being recognized for their swift and skilled response in saving a man’s life after he suffered a severe heart attack known as a “Widowmaker.”

Just before the new year arrived, Engineer Omar Franco and his colleagues from Engine 105 and Medic 6105 responded to a medical emergency involving a 45-year-old man experiencing sharp chest pain radiating to his left shoulder. Upon assessment, the team identified a 100% blockage in the patient’s left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery—one of the deadliest types of heart attacks.

Understanding the critical nature of the situation, the crew acted decisively, initiating aggressive treatment and activating a STEMI alert to ensure the patient was transported to the nearest cardiac specialty center. Their rapid assessment and precise execution ultimately saved the man’s life.

“Next to creating a life, the finest thing a man can do is save one,” President Abraham Lincoln once said,” shared Metro Fire as they recognized Franco and the crew, a sentiment that reflects the dedication and excellence demonstrated by the Metro Fire team.
