Firefighters from two different agencies responded to a structure fire Thursday afternoon in the Orangevale area and remained on scene several hours later mopping up and securing a home that was severely damaged by flames.
At 1:47 p.m on Thursday, units from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and the Folsom Fire Department responded to reports of a home on fire on the 8900 block of Pershing Avenue in Orangevale.
Upon arrival to the scene, firefighters observed and reported “heavy fire conditions,” that were on the backside of the single family dwelling where there was a deck attached to the home. Firefighters also reported that the fast moving blaze had already extended into the attic of the home. As additional units continued to respond to the scene, firefighters began an aggressive attack on the burning home.
Pushing their way into the structure, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the home and prevent its spread to other nearby structures and vegetation. Once firefighters entered the building they performed a thorough search of the burning home for occupants. It was confirmed the residents were not home at the time of the fire. Upon entry they were able to rescue a family dog, in which they administered oxygen to once they rescued it from the burning home. A pet rabbit was not as fortunate as it succumbed to the heavy smoke in the home.
As of 4:30 p.m. members of the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District remained on scene, mopping it up and continuing to investigate the fire. At this time no details on the cause have been released by firefighters.
A total of five engines responded to the fire between the Metro and Folsom responding units. Folsom’s Truck 35 also responded to the scene. Two medic units responded with three Battalion Chief units and additional support units from the departments. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Star Five also responded for support.
Firefighters were able to contain an an Orangevale home fire to its dwelling of origin Thursday afternoon. The home suffered severe damage. A pet rabbit was lost in the in fire, however, firefighters were able to enter the unoccupied home and rescue a family dog that was inside and treat it for smoke inhalation (top photo).
