Firefighters from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department and the Folsom Fire Department worked together to contain a fast moving grass fire threatening several homes Wednesday.
The original call for response came just after 10 a.m Wednesday morning, reporting a grass fire near the 9300 block of Beech Avenue, just outside of the Folsom city line in Orangevale.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived on scene of the blaze and ordered additional resources from the Folsom Fire Department as the vegetation fire was bumping up close to several residential homes and structure protection was needed in addition to added resources to contain the fire.
With the quick response and resources, firefighters were able to stop forward progress of the fire and contain it to three acres, according to Sacramento Metro Fire officials. No homes were damaged in the fire and no injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.
According to Metro Fire officials the fire was determined to be accidental and started from a mower in the field. Fire officials urge residents to refrain from mowing once the air warms up in late morning, or during breezy conditions to prevent the risk of accidental fire.
A total of 12 fire units responded to the fire between Metro and Folsom Fire Departments.
Additionally, one helicopter was dispatched as well as one California Office of Emergency (CalOES) unit.
