The total number of official candidates that will be on the ballot for Folsom City Council in the November 2024 election now stands at six. Folsom resident Tanya Morales announced she had officially terminated her campaign and was withdrawing from the race last week. Morales was campaigning for District 2, which is one of two districts in the city with open seats this year.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to each of you for the incredible support you’ve shown me throughout my campaign for Folsom City Council. Your encouragement and belief in my vision for our city has meant the world to me,” Morales said in a statement Friday afternoon. “After careful consideration and discussion with my husband and kids, I have decided to end my run for City Council at this time”
With a background in real estate and previously serving as a Folsom Parks Commissioner, Morales announced her campaign back in April of this year, citing her focus would be on economic growth, public safety and affordability, according to her original announcement. While she is bowing out of the race, the longtime Folsom resident cites she will continue to be very involved in her community.
“While I am confident in what I have to offer, I believe this is the right decision for now. However, this is not the end of my dedication to our community. Over the last 23 years I have dedicated myself to our community and will continue to work hard for Folsom. The overwhelming support I’ve received has only strengthened my resolve. I have no doubt that I will step up to lead in the near future.Thank you once again for your unwavering support. I look forward to continuing our work together to make Folsom an even better place to live, work, and thrive,” her statement concludes.
The official nomination period closed for the Folsom City Council race last Friday. The terms of Councilmembers YK Chalamcherla and Rosario Rodriguez, who were both elected to four-year, at-large terms in 2020, will end in November 2024. At the November 2024 election, Councilmembers representing District 2 and District 4 will be elected to four-year terms. There will no longer be at-large Councilmembers after the upcoming election.
The terms of current Folsom City councilmembers Mike Kozlowski (District 1), Sarah Aquino (District 3), and Anna Rohrbough (District 5), who were elected to four-year terms in 2022, will continue until November 2026. At the November 2026 election, Councilmembers representing District 1, District 3, and District 5 will be elected to four-year terms. In this case, all three incumbents will be eligible to run again based on their residency within their respective districts.
