Get ready for an event that is expected to be of “epic’ proportions this Saturday, June 15, as the Mother Lode Epic Mountain Bike Race kicks off makes its way from Coloma to Folsom where riders will cross the finish line at Beals Point, then continue on to celebrate the event in Historic Folsom later in the day. This point-to-point race features four timed stages over a 32-mile course, with a unique boat transfer across Folsom Lake.

Presented by Clipped in for Life race starts with participants shuttled from Historic Folsom to Coloma. From there, riders will traverse oak woodlands and rolling hills, taking in scenic views of the American River as they make their way back to Folsom.

The race is broken down into the following stages:

  • Stage 1: Coloma to Pilot Hill
  • Stage 2: Pilot Hill to Salmon Falls
  • Stage 3: Salmon Falls to Folsom Lake Peninsula
  • Stage 4: Granite Bay to Folsom, following a boat transfer across Folsom Lake

In between stages, racers can take a breather as their timing stops, enjoying aid stations that offer hydration, refreshments, and a festive atmosphere with music and entertainment. A boat transfer across Folsom Lake adds a unique twist to the event this year for riders.

The final racing stage concludes at Beals Point, where participants can cool off with a swim in the lake before an easy ride back to Historic Folsom. The post-race festivities include exploring the local scene and enjoying a recovery meal at one of the restaurants along Sutter Street. The celebration continues with live music in the Historic Folsom Amphitheater throughout the afternoon, culminating in the race awards ceremony at 5 p.m.

The top three racers in each category will receive a custom Mother Lode Epic podium award. The racer with the fastest time for each stage in each category also receives a custom Stage Winner race plate Organizers note that the race is a 39-mile epic trail/XC race with 32 miles of racing and is not recommended for beginners. Beginners interested in racing should pair up with a buddy as a relay team.
