Drivers along Grant Line Road are being urged to remain cautious Thursday morning as Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department crews work to contain and mop up several vegetation fires in the area. Authorities have detained the driver of a vehicle that is reportedly responsible for lighting the fires.

The first reports of the fires came in just after 7:15 a.m., with units dispatched to the intersection of Grant Line Road and the west leg of White Rock Road. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered multiple grass fires, including one near Raymer Way and Grant Line Road, as well as additional spot fires along White Rock Road. A local construction crew was also on scene assisting with efforts to extinguish one of the blazes.

As firefighters worked to control the flames, another fire was reported nearby off Rancho Cordova Parkway. The fires were reportedly ignited by a silver pickup truck seen driving through in the area. At 7:40 a.m. Rancho Cordova Police reported that they had detained the vehicle and its occupant, an arson investigator was dispatched to the scene.

By 7:35 a.m., a total of five engines remained active in the firefighting efforts from both Sac Metro and Folsom. Motorists commuting through the area are advised to exercise caution and be aware of fire equipment and personnel. Grant Line Road is a heavily traveled route for drivers commuting between Folsom, South Rancho Cordova, and Elk Grove.  Crews have contained each of the fires and will remain on scene for mop up and the investigation.
