PLACERVILLE – The USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets and BCRA Lightning Sprints are primed to take on Placerville Speedway this Friday and Saturday for the annual running of the Hangtown 100, bringing two nights of thrilling open-wheel racing to the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.
Placerville Speedway officials confirmed they are fully pushing forward with the event despite a damp forecast. Should Friday’s race be rained out, refunds will be issued to ticket holders; however, Friday-only tickets will not roll over into Saturday due to the event’s reserved seating policy. Fans and race teams are encouraged to monitor the track’s social media channels for any updates.
Two-night ticket packages and single-night tickets are available online atEventSprout.comor at the gate on race day. Pit passes will also be available, and fans are encouraged to take advantage of the extra seating in the pit area. The event serves as the finale to Placerville Speedway’s milestone 60th anniversary season.
“The Hangtown 100 has become a marquee event to close out the season at Placerville Speedway,” said promoter Scott Russell. “The USAC National Midgets have put on some breathtaking shows here the last several years, and we expect more of the same this weekend. Hopefully the fans will come out and support two great nights of racing this Friday and Saturday.”
Among those returning to compete is Elk Grove native and two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson. Larson, who also serves as co-promoter of the Hangtown 100, captured his second event title last year after sweeping both feature nights before rain canceled the final race. He also won the inaugural Hangtown 100 in 2019 and will be looking to claim a third victory this weekend.
The USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets kick off their busy California swing Friday night in Placerville. Bixby, Oklahoma’s Cannon McIntosh enters the weekend leading the series points standings. California native Justin Grant, Kevin Thomas Jr., Jacob Denney, and Gavin Miller round out the top five in the championship chase.
A deep lineup of national and local talent will also battle for the coveted Hangtown 100 crown. Returning California favorites include World of Outlaws runner-up and 2022 Hangtown 100 champion Buddy Kofoid; three-time Gold Cup Race of Champions winner Corey Day, who also won the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial; 2021 Hangtown 100 champion and USAC Triple Crown winner Logan Seavey; and Lemoore’s Carson Macedo, who finished third in this year’s World of Outlaws standings after collecting 12 victories.
Placerville Speedway hosted a pair of Avanti Windows & Doors USAC Western States Midget events earlier this season, with Fremont’s Shane Golobic and Lincoln’s Tanner Carrick each scoring feature wins. Stockton’s Caden Sarale ultimately earned the season-long Western States Midget championship title.
As tradition dictates, Saturday night’s program will feature the 100-lap finale for the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets — one of the longest and most prestigious main events of the year.
Complementing the Midgets both nights will be the Wingless BCRA Lightning Sprints, a fan-favorite division that always delivers exciting wheel-to-wheel racing during the Hangtown 100 weekend. In 2023, Langley, British Columbia driver Levi Klatt claimed the Lightning Sprint victory during the event’s finale, while Livermore’s Greg Dennett secured the BCRA Lightning Sprint season championship this year with six feature wins.
