Classic Christmas tale takes stage Friday, runs though Sunday
A cherished holiday tradition returns to Folsom this weekend as Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet presents The Nutcracker at the Harris Center. Opening this Friday evening, and running through Sunday, the production promises to enchant audiences with its timeless tale, breathtaking choreography, and the accompaniment of a live orchestra conducted by Maestro Peter Jaffe and members of the Folsom Lake Symphony.
First performed in Moscow in 1892, The Nutcracker has become a beloved Christmas staple, captivating audiences with its magical journey through Tchaikovsky’s iconic score. Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet’s rendition brings the story to life with vibrant costumes and a cast of talented dancers.
The performance follows young Clara on an extraordinary adventure, beginning at a festive Christmas Eve celebration at her family’s grand home. When Clara receives a Nutcracker as a gift from the mysterious and magical Drosselmeyer, an enchanting series of events unfolds. From a fierce battle against the Mouse King and his army to a dreamlike journey through the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets, Clara encounters a dazzling array of characters, including the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Nutcracker Prince.
Under the artistic direction of Pamela Hayes, the production reflects a deep dedication to the classical traditions of ballet while embracing the enchantment of the holiday season. Hayes, whose career spans over 35 years, has trained generations of dancers at her pre-professional school and company in El Dorado Hills. With a foundation in the Royal Academy of Dance technique, the performers exhibit both technical precision and artistic expression, ensuring a memorable experience for audiences of all ages.
The Harris Center will host five performances of The Nutcracker, beginning with the opening night show at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, December 21, the ballet will feature a matinee at 1:00 p.m. and an evening performance at 5:00 p.m. The final two shows are scheduled for Sunday, December 22, also at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. As of this writing, a limited number of tickets remain available, with demand reflecting the enduring popularity of this holiday classic.
