While much of the nation was focused on who would become the Super Bowl Champions this week, a championship of another nature was captured by one of our area high school’s. Oak Ridge High School has captured a 2024 National Cheerleading title.
Just about 24 hours prior to Sunday’s big game, the Oak Ridge High School Cheerleading Team was hoisting a trophy of their own. The El Dorado Hills team clinched the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship in the Division 1 Medium Varsity category.
Under the leadership of coaches James Blunk and Kat Martin, the team competed against more that 50 teams from across the nation to secure the title. The competition took place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando Florida.
We are humbled to be in a division and compete against so many amazing teams. This division has some unreal talent and phenomenal programs.,” read a statement on an Oak Ridge High School’s Athletics social media page shortly after their victory. “We are so proud of every one of these athletes.”
The team was enroute to return early Monday, flying into the Sacramento International Airport with a championship trophy in their grasp and a whole lot of pride and excitement to go along with it.
“Thank you to all those who supported us this year. We are so grateful for all the family, friends and parents who have supported us along the way,” the post victory statement continued. “The amount of people who care about these kids and this program is amazing. We could not have done this without you.”
