ORANGEVALE — A Saturday afternoon apartment fire in Orangevale sent one woman to the hospital with burn injuries but was quickly contained to a single unit, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Multiple fire crews were dispatched at approximately 3:40 p.m. to the 9100 block of Madison Avenue after reports of a structure fire inside a multi-unit apartment complex. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions in a first-floor apartment, with flames extending upward into a second-floor unit.

Crews made an aggressive interior attack while simultaneously conducting a search of the building to ensure all residents had safely evacuated. Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze within about 15 minutes, stopping further spread and limiting the majority of the damage to the original first-floor unit.

One woman was treated at the scene for a minor burn injury and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. No other injuries were reported.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage to adjacent units was reported as minimal, and no additional evacuations were required once the fire was brought under control.

Fire officials also reminded residents to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke alarms, to test them regularly, and to replace batteries at least once a year to help provide early warning in the event of a fire.
