An inmate at Folsom State Prison was transported to a nearby hospital for injuries sustained during a reported fight that broke out at the facility Tuesday morning, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
Prison officials said the altercation occurred at approximately 8:41 a.m. and involved multiple incarcerated individuals. Staff members responded quickly to the incident and discovered one person with injuries. That individual was transported to an outside medical facility for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
CDCR officials confirmed that staff secured the area and restored order without the use of force. Authorities also recovered one improvised weapon at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation, and officials have not released additional details regarding what led to the fight, the total number of individuals involved or whether any disciplinary action has been taken.
Folsom State Prison, one of California’s most well-known correctional facilities, houses medium- and minimum-security inmates. It has a long history of managing inmate conflicts and maintaining security within its walls.
