Orangevale resident Casey White has been named the 2024 Veteran of the Year for California’s 7th Assembly District by Assemblyman Josh Hoover.

In a ceremony Monday afternoon, Hoover praised White for his exemplary service in the United States Marine Corps from 2008 to 2013, which included deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

“Casey’s remarkable service stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication to our nation,” Hoover said. “His courage and commitment during these challenging times highlight the exceptional qualities that make him a true hero in our community.”

Since his return to civilian life, White has dedicated himself to supporting fellow veterans through his nonprofit organization, Disconnect to Reconnect (D2R), based in Northern California. D2R provides veterans with opportunities to reconnect with nature, their peers, and themselves through outdoor activities designed to promote mental wellness and camaraderie.

White’s leadership has resulted in numerous outdoor events such as mountain biking, surfing, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, camping, disc golf, and paddleboarding. These activities offer veterans a chance to heal and find support in a safe, group environment.

Through D2R, White has created a community where veterans can share experiences and foster bonds with others who understand their unique challenges. Hoover praised White’s commitment to improving the mental health and well-being of veterans and emphasized that his efforts exemplify the spirit of service and dedication to the common good.

“Casey’s ongoing commitment to supporting veterans in our community is truly commendable,” Hoover said. “It is with immense pride and gratitude that I extend my heartfelt appreciation for his honorable service to our country.”
