It’s homecoming week, but it may be one without an actual game for Folsom High School this Friday night. Citing safety concerns for their players and an ailing roster, Davis High School announced it will forfeit Friday’s match up against the Folsom Bulldogs.
“It was not a decision we took lightly. This decision was predicated on health and safety of our team,” said Davis High Athletic Director Mark McGreevy in a statement.
According to McGreevy, Davis, which is new to the league, only had 21 available varsity players as eight of their players are injured.
“It wouldn’t be safe to go play at Folsom on Friday. We had to be responsible,” McGreevy added.
Folsom High School head football coach Paul Doherty and the Bulldogs are actively searching for an opponent on Sept. 27, even if it were a non league match up, it would give the team and the community a homecoming game. The event is about more than announcing a homecoming court, it’s about players remaining active, not to mention attendance to the game, snack bar sales and more that benefit the athletic program.
At this time, Folsom has not landed an opponent. Plans for announcing the Homecoming King and Queen are being adjusted to take place at a public rally following the Bulldogs annual Homecoming Parade on Sutter Street this Wednesday night.
Wednesday’s parade will wind through the historic district, with road closures in place along Coloma Street, Sutter Street, Reading Street, and Leidesdorff Street. These closures will occur from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The parade is expected to commence on Sutter Street at 6:30 p.m. with the rally to follow. The public is being urged to come show their support.
