Collision at Folsom Boulevard and Iron Road shuts down light rail service for unknown duration

FOLSOM- Emergency crews have responded to the scene of a fatal traffic collision Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Folsom Boulevard and Iron Point Road, where light rail service was shut down for several hours as emergency operations and an investigation were conducted.

One person has reportedly been killed in the collision. According to emergency personnel on scene, the fatality was reportedly a bystander and not an occupant of the vehicle involved. Authorities said additional victims with injuries were transported to UC Davis Medical Center, though their conditions were unknown as of Thursday afternoon.

The incident was reported at 2:53 p.m. as multiple units from the Folsom Fire Department and Folsom Police were dispatched to the following multiple 911 calls reporting that a vehicle had left the roadway and struck the train access ramp Upon arrival to the scene firefighters were faced with a passenger vehicle that was precariously lodged onto the light ramp structure and at least two victims Light rail service through the area was immediately halted as personnel stabilized the scene.

A total of two engine companies from the Folsom Fire Department assisted with the incident along with Folsom’s Truck 34. two medic units were dispatched as well as one batallion chief unit. Fire personnel were cleared from the scene as of 3:46 p.m. The crash investigation is being conducted by the Folsom Police Department in coordination with the Sacramento Regional Transit District. It is unknown how long light rail service through the area will be and stand still as SacRT will be conducting inspections and any needed repairs.

Authorities have not released information regarding the incident at this time as it remains under investigation.
