Jeep enthusiasts looking to build confidence behind the wheel and master off-road driving techniques have a perfect opportunity as MetalCloak Skillz Day returns to Prairie City State Vehicle Recreation Area (SVRA) on Saturday, April 5. Designed specifically for new Jeep owners and past Skillz Day graduates, this hands-on event teaches essential off-road skills in a safe and supervised environment.

Founded over a decade ago, MetalCloak’s Skillz Day has become a must-attend for Jeepers eager to understand their vehicle’s capabilities and gain practical knowledge of trail driving. The comprehensive training covers everything from how to use lockers and sway bars to choosing the right trail, recovery techniques, off-road safety, and winching best practices.

Skillz Day is exclusively for new Jeep owners and past Skillz Day graduates seeking a refresher course. Experienced off-roaders are encouraged to bring a new driver but should not register themselves. Participants will be categorized as Novice, for first-time Skillz Day attendees new to wheeling, rock crawling, and Jeep ownership, and Advanced Beginner, for returning Skillz Day graduates looking to refine their techniques.

The event takes place on Saturday, April 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Novice registration begins at 8:15 a.m., with a drivers meeting at 9:15 a.m. Advanced Beginner registration starts at 9:15 a.m., with a drivers meeting at 9:45 a.m. The event will be held at Prairie City SVRA. The cost is $25 per driver and $15 per passenger. Complimentary coffee and donuts will be provided in the morning, along with a hot lunch courtesy of MetalCloak.

Throughout the day, experienced Jeep volunteers will be stationed at various off-road obstacles, guiding participants through real-world scenarios. The training also includes live demonstrations on recovery techniques, trail repairs, winching, and land use ethics. Attendees will leave with a stronger understanding of what their Jeep can do and how to tackle terrain safely. Industry vendors and off-road organizations will also be on-site, offering additional insights and expert advice.
