Bulldogs top SFL ranks over Oak Ridge; Vista secured third spot in CFC league
Regular season play came to a close Friday night for area high school football teams competing across the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, as focus shifts to playoff competition next week. In Week 10 of league action, the rain began to fall, but three Folsom-area teams soaked up success to end their regular season with wins.
The Folsom Bulldogs topped the list of Friday night winners, defeating Granite Bay in a game many predicted would be close but turned out otherwise. Folsom held off the Grizzlies on the road, winning 48-10.
It wasn’t until six minutes remained in the first quarter that Folsom got on the board for the first time. Quarterback Ryder Lyons launched an 18-yard pass to Jameson Powell, putting the Bulldogs up 7-0 after the extra point. Granite Bay got on the board with a 24-yard field goal with seven minutes left in the second quarter, bringing the score to 7-3.
Folsom answered back quickly before halftime with a 24-yard rushing touchdown by Lyons. Daymion Rivera followed that with an 8-yard run, extending the lead to 20-3 with three minutes remaining. The Grizzlies attempted to gain momentum at the three-minute mark, but Folsom’s Lua DaBerry stopped them with a tackle for a loss with two minutes to go. Lyons then connected with Powell on a 64-yard pass, bringing the halftime score to 27-3.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the second half, as Lyons launched a 29-yard pass to Rob Larson, putting another touchdown on the board. Lyons and Powell connected again with eight minutes left in the third. Folsom went up 48-3 just after the start of the fourth quarter with an 11-yard pass from Lyons to Beckham Andrus. Granite Bay made its final showing on the board with three minutes remaining in the fourth, scoring a 22-yard rushing touchdown to bring the game to 48-10.
With Friday’s victory, Folsom officially claims the top spot in the Sierra Foothill League standings with an overall record of 9-1 and an undefeated conference record of 7-0. They are trailed in the SFL rankings by Oak Ridge in second, followed by Rocklin, Granite Bay, and Jesuit.
Vista Shuts Out Bella Vista 35-0
Vista del Lago traveled to Fair Oaks to face Bella Vista, keeping the Broncos off the scoreboard all night and wrapping up their final regular conference game of the season with a 35-0 shutout. The victory places Vista at 5-5 for the season.
Vista del Lago enters the postseason in third place in the Capital Valley Conference with a league record of 4-2. Christian Brothers heads into November play on top of the standings, followed by Inderkum in second. Woodcreek and Rio Americano round out the top five, with Vista ahead of Ponderosa.
Oak Ridge Takes Down Rocklin 17-6
In their final league game, the Oak Ridge Trojans ended the regular season with a win over Placer County rival Rocklin. Playing in the rain, the Trojans scored first with a 7-yard field goal by Kyle Boeker in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Trojans scored their first touchdown of the night, with Joaquin Graves-Mercado throwing a 23-yard pass to Isaac Pierce, bringing the halftime score to 10-0. Jason Womack scored the final touchdown of the game with five minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Oak Ridge finishes the regular season with a 6-4 overall record and a 6-1 record in the Sierra Foothill League, one spot behind Folsom. Friday’s win put Rocklin in third place in the SFL standings, above Granite Bay and Jesuit.
