FOLSOM—Autumn is arriving in Folsom, and with it comes one of the community’s most beloved seasonal traditions. The Pumpkin Patch Flyer, a family favorite along the city’s historic rail lines, is set to return for another year of fall fun beginning Saturday, October 4, and running every Saturday and Sunday through October 19.

Hosted by the Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad, the Pumpkin Patch Flyer gives families a rare opportunity to board authentic motor railcars and travel through the scenic corridors of Willow Creek. The ride itself, which runs about 60 to 90 minutes in total, transports passengers from Oak Station to Willow Springs, where the magic of the season awaits.

Once at the pumpkin patch, families can step off the railcar into a charming autumn setting nestled in the woods right in the middle of Folsom. Children will be delighted to select their own pumpkin to take home, while everyone can enjoy seasonal activities and refreshments at the Whistlestop. The experience has become a cherished October tradition for locals and visitors alike, blending the nostalgia of railroading with the simple joys of fall.

Railcars depart every 30 minutes throughout the day, and families are encouraged to stay at Willow Springs as long as they like before returning to Oak Station. The full outing typically lasts between 40 and 60 minutes, making it a perfectly sized excursion for families with younger children.

Ticket prices for 2025 are set at $18 for adults ages 13 and up, and $12 for children ages 4 through 12, which includes one pumpkin. Children under 4 ride free and also receive a pumpkin. Boarding takes place next to Folsom Family Fitness at 700 Oak Avenue Parkway, where plenty of parking is available adjacent to the tracks.

The Pumpkin Patch Flyer has been delighting families for years thanks to the dedication of Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad volunteers. Their work keeps this tradition alive, allowing generations of families to make memories together as they ride the rails to celebrate the fall season.
