RANCHO CORDOVA – The Rancho Cordova Police Department will hold a driving under the influence (DUI) and driver’s license checkpoint on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 7 p.m. through early Saturday, March 15, at 2 a.m. The checkpoint will take place at an undisclosed location within city limits.
Checkpoint locations are selected based on data identifying areas with a higher incidence of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary goal is to enhance public safety by identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.
During the operation, officers will screen drivers for signs of alcohol and drug impairment and ensure all motorists have valid driver’s licenses. Authorities say efforts will be made to keep any delays to a minimum.
Police emphasize that impairment is not limited to alcohol; certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can also impair driving ability. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana remains against the law.
A first-time DUI conviction can carry significant consequences, including an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended driver’s license.
The DUI enforcement program is funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, with support from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
