The Rancho Cordova Police Department (RCPD) will hold a DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint from 7 p.m. on Friday, August 9, through 2 a.m. on Saturday, August 10. The checkpoint will be at an undisclosed location within the City of Rancho Cordova.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data indicating high incidences of impaired driving-related crashes. The main goal of these checkpoints is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the roads.
During the checkpoint, officers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol and drug impairment and will also check for valid driver’s licenses. The RCPD aims to minimize delays for motorists.
The department also reminds drivers that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol. Certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can impair driving ability. Additionally, while marijuana is legal for medicinal and recreational use, driving under its influence remains illegal.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.
