Skating, figure skating shows, DJs and an early evening ball drop highlight Dec. 31 festivities
Historic Folsom will ring in the New Year on the ice as the Historic Folsom Ice Rink hosts its Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Party on Wednesday, Dec. 31, offering a full day of skating, music, performances and celebration in the heart of the city.
Running from 10 a.m. through 9:30 p.m., the event transforms the outdoor rink at 200 Wool St. into a festive winter centerpiece, welcoming families, skaters and spectators for a New Year’s Eve celebration designed for all ages. The event is presented by Kaiser Permanente and features themed skate sessions, live DJ music, special performances and a signature early evening ball drop.
Organizers say the daylong celebration allows visitors to enjoy New Year’s Eve festivities without staying out late, while still capturing the excitement and tradition of a countdown moment. All skate sessions throughout the day will feature enhanced lighting, music and a celebratory atmosphere unique to the holiday.
The celebration begins with a Noon Year’s Eve party at 1 p.m., as DJ Elo takes over the rink, giving younger skaters and families a chance to skate, dance and celebrate the New Year several hours before midnight. Throughout the afternoon and evening, festive lighting and music will continue to set the tone for the event leading to the venue’s official New Year’s Eve Party with DJ Jeremy turning up the tunes into the night.
Figure skating shows are scheduled for 6 p.m. and again at 8 p.m., showcasing on-ice performances designed to add a visual highlight to the evening sessions. The night culminates with the rink’s 9 p.m. ball drop party, when skaters and spectators count down together under the lights as the New Year arrives early in Historic Folsom.
The events take place at the Historic Folsom Ice Rink, located in the city’s Historic District and surrounded by shops, restaurants and seasonal attractions. Tickets are sold by session, and organizers encourage attendees to purchase in advance, noting that New Year’s Eve skate sessions traditionally sell out.
