Pat Hume elected vice chair in annual leadership vote
The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors selected its leadership for 2026 on Tuesday morning, electing Rosario Rodriguez as chair of the board and Pat Hume as vice chair following its annual reorganization vote.
The vote sets the governing structure for the coming year, with both positions serving one-year terms. The chair plays a central role in guiding meetings, representing Sacramento County on regional boards and commissions, and serving as a key point of contact for the public on board-related matters.
“It is an honor to serve as Chair of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors in 2026,” Rodriguez said after the ceremonial swearing in. “I step into this role with a clear focus on results, respect and responsibility. Many of our residents are struggling, and they deserve a County government that acts with urgency and delivers measurable outcomes.”
Rodriguez said she intends to run disciplined and productive meetings while holding the county to a high standard of accountability and follow-through. She emphasized that listening to community voices across Sacramento County will be a central priority of her leadership, with an emphasis on translating those voices into concrete action.
“Respect begins with listening to the people and the communities we serve and ensuring their voices are reflected in our decisions,” Rodriguez said. “Responsibility means turning those voices into action. Working with my fellow Supervisors, County staff, and community partners, I will advance solutions that strengthen neighborhoods and ensure Sacramento County operates transparently, effectively, and with real impact for the public.”
As board chair, Rodriguez will preside over meetings of the Board of Supervisors, rule on procedural questions, and recognize supervisors wishing to speak on agenda items. The chair retains full voting authority, participates in board discussion, and may make and second motions without relinquishing the chair. The position also includes serving on other boards and commissions as a representative of the County of Sacramento and acting as a general point of contact for residents with questions related to board meetings, presentations, and resolutions not specific to a single supervisorial district.

Vice Chair Pat Hume will step into the role of chair in Rodriguez’s absence or if she is unable to act. If both the chair and vice chair are unavailable, the supervisors present are authorized to select a temporary chair to preside over the meeting.
The leadership transition marks the beginning of a new year for the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors as it prepares to address countywide priorities, including fiscal planning, service delivery, and policies impacting residents throughout all five supervisorial districts.
