Rotarians across the region were out in force Saturday, taking on countless projects across several communities for Rotary People of Action Day and the Folsom Lake Rotary Club was no exception locally.

Rotarians form the local club teamed up with members of Folsom High School’s Interact Club to begin to tackle a much-needed project at the community vegetable garden. Located behind Folsom’s Community Center, the garden has fallen into despair over the last year in need of sprucing up. From weeding to mulching to repairing fences, the volunteers took on a number of projects.

The effort was just the first phase of the project with a hope of making very productive once again. The Folsom Lake Rotary Club is seeing members of the community interested in becoming part of a committee to focus on the project.  Once formed, the committee will work to determine how the community garden can best be utilized, how to do it and how to protect it from wildlife and other challenges.

Those wishing to be on the committee do not have to be a Rotarian, it is open to anyone who may be interested. Those interested can drop a message to the Folsom Lake Rotary Facebook page, or send an email to: folsomlakerotary@gmail.com.

Saturday’s clean up of the garden was just the beginning as the Folsom Lake Rotary Club looks to form a committee to focus on the future of the local resource.
