The City of Folsom’s annual Summer of Music series may have concluded last month but the music certainly hasn’t died on Friday nights at City Lions Park. Continuing this Friday night is another series that consists a total of six weeks of free concerts set to help residents dance their way right into fall thanks to the Rotary Club of Folsom and the Folsom Rotary Foundation.

It’s the Summer 2023 Lions Park Friday Night Concert Series presented by the two non-profit service organizations with the help of community sponsors. The series started one week ago with Granite City 909 and continues through Sept. 8 and welcomes six different bands and a variety of genres to the gazebo and the green just outside the Folsom City Library.

This Friday night the series welcomes the cool jazz of Peter Morgan to the stage. Morgan is known for composing and performing unique original contemporary jazz instrumentals delivered in a coastal smooth jazz style, spiced a dash of blues that is Morgan’s signature sound.

Morgan has produced all six of his albums showcasing his skills on guitar, harmonica, bass, keyboards, lap steel, dobro, pedal steel, pan flute, ukulele, percussion and vocals. He has performed alongside some of the biggest names in jazz including Fattburger, Michael McDonald, trumpeter Chris Botti and keyboardist Phillipe Saisse to name a few. Peter has performed numerous times at the Sacramento Jazz festival, the world’s largest jazz festival.

Morgan has an impressive musical resume. Some of the highlights include receiving national exposure as the music director for a number of public television specials including The Boston Computer Museum’s Computer Bowl and The Software Publishers Associations 10th annual Excellence in Software Codie Awards. Both broadcast on PBS’ Computer Chronicles. He also recently performed on a song that was used on the WB Network’s hit show Hart of Dixie.

The concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 pm. each Friday and organizers encourage live music lovers to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and ice chests. One more item they suggest you bring is a pair of comfortable dancing shoes in case you want to kick up those heals to some of the great bands they welcome into September.

Following Morgan’s performance on Friday, the late summer series will welcome a tribute to the Beatles on Aug. 18 with Revolution Beat, country music by Brisco County on Aug. 25; the combination of classic and country rock by AKAlive on Sept. 1. The series all wraps up on Sept. 8 with Have Mercy performing a night of top 40 hits.
