A Folsom police officer offering help to a stranded driver ended up uncovering a loaded firearm and illegal drugs, resulting in the arrest of a Sacramento woman on multiple charges.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on May 1 near the 2700 block of East Bidwell Street, according to the Folsom Police Department. An officer on patrol was flagged down by a woman whose vehicle had run out of gas in a nearby parking lot. The officer provided assistance by obtaining fuel and helping her get back on the road.

A short time later, the same officer noticed the woman acting suspiciously while passing through the area again. Concerned for her well-being, the officer stopped to check on her. During their conversation, police said the woman admitted to having drugs and a loaded firearm in the vehicle.

A search of the car revealed a loaded .38-caliber revolver, more than 23 grams of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

The driver, identified as 47-year-old Kelly Long of Sacramento, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail. She faces several charges, including possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drugs while armed.

Folsom police noted in their report that the incident highlights the importance of vigilance, even during routine interactions.

“What started as a simple act of assistance turned into a serious public safety matter, and another example of how staying alert helps us protect our community,” the department shared in the report.
