RydeFreeRT program offers unlimited transit access for TK–12 youth all year long
Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) is once again making it easier for local students to get to class, activities, and beyond without worrying about the cost of a fare. As the school year begins, SacRT’s RydeFreeRT program is entering its sixth year, providing unlimited free rides for all students and youth in grades TK through 12.
With a valid RydeFreeRT card, students can ride SacRT buses and light rail any day, at any time, all year long — whether it’s for school, after-school events, part-time jobs, or weekend outings. The program covers students who live or attend school within the SacRT service area and extends to youth experiencing homelessness or in foster care programs, regardless of where they live or go to school.
RydeFreeRT cards are issued through participating schools and are valid through June 30, 2026. Students who need a card can also visit the SacRT Customer Service and Sales Center at 1225 R Street in Sacramento, just steps from the 13th Street light rail station, or any Sacramento Public Library branch.
To ride free, students simply show their RydeFreeRT card to the bus operator or present it upon request when riding light rail. More details about the program, eligibility, and distribution can be found at rydefreert.com.
