Samsung Semiconductor has announced the opening of its newest office in Folsom. The news of the tech giant planting roots in the city came Thursday afternoon as Folsom Mayor Mike Koslowski closed his 2024 State of the City speech to a sold out crowd at Lakeside Church.

“We’re excited to announce that Samsung Semiconductor is opening a brand new office, right here in Folsom,” said Koslowski. “This strategic move strengthens Folsom’s position as a city of choice for businesses and allows the city to harness local talent, fueling innovation in the semiconductor industry.”

Koslowski shared that the facility will, “contain an research and development  (R&D) hub like no other,” featuring an Advanced Compute Lab and an Advanced Controller Development team.

“The brilliant minds at Samsung are at the forefront of driving memory innovations for cloud and data center environments and mobile and automotive solutions, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible,” said Koslowski.

The Folsom facility plans on housing approximately 50 dedicated employees, with plans to expand in the future, according to Koslowski.S The Folsom locatio is currently hiring engineer roles. Interested applicants can learn more here and here.

Samsung Semiconductor, Inc., is based in San Jose and is a multi-billion dollar subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, Ltd. The company  provides the widest range of memory, logic, storage devices, LED components and LCD/OLED panels to enhance the user experience in home entertainment, mobile devices, lighting and computing.  The company has advanced R&D labs focused on product design and research in memory, displays, logic, image sensors, and mobile technologies.

The mayor then welcomed Samsung President and Corporate Executive Vice President Jinman Han to the podium. 

“I am very excited to be here today,” said Han, who explained that the teams at the future Folsom facility will be responsible for creating mobile and automotive solutions. He also explained that Samsung is much more than the devices like phones, televisions and appliances most are familiar with. Han said Folsom was an easy choice when it came to selecting a location to expand to.

“We have been working with Choose Folsom, the City of Folsom and the Great Sacramento (Economic) Council and they have been so helpful in opening our office and welcoming to us,” he said.

Following Thursday’s announcement where he shared gifts with the Mayor, Han then went on to an official opening ceremony and private ribbon cutting at their new location at 2365 Iron Point Road. The private invite event was attended by several government officials and local team members. Speeches were presented by Congressman Kevin Kiley, and other key community stakeholders and executive leadership.
