This week is the end of the school year and beginning of summer break. That phrase is one of the more memorable song titles & lines about school from my generation and has lived on in perpetuity.
As graduation ceremonies blare “Forever Young” and “Graduation (Friends Forever)”, kids are really looking forward to what’s next. On a side note, beware… as those two songs are so dang catchy, they may be stuck in my head until school starts again in August.

As school ends, I’m sure there’s a percentage of kids that will miss all those classes; English, History, Math & more. They’ll miss quizzes, exams and homework. But I’m guessing the majority of kids will be relieved and enjoy the summer break. Now they can really focus on learning all summer long. Yes, learning. All. Summer. Long. How many kids will be expanding their horizons? Broadening their view. Honing their skills. Discovering new things. Enlarge their understanding.

All synonyms for “summer camp”! When I was a kid, which was many moons ago (I emphasize “many”), summer camp was summer camp. It was literally a camp. Oh, we had swim lessons as an option too.

Now that summer is here, the learning really starts! Here’s a sampling of the camps that are available in our immediate area. I gotta say that the opportunities are awesome and endless. This really is an opportunity to expand horizons.
The choices are so wide and diverse. The camps cater to every interest and age group. Whether your child is a budding scientist, a creative artist, a sports enthusiast, or a nature explorer, there are summer camp options for everyone.

Let’s see. There’s learning to ride a bike. Music lab offers ukulele, piano parties and of course a waiting list for Taylor Swift singing. Dreams of Broadway? Check out the musical theater. The arts are not your thing? Fascinated by technology? Sign up for CoderSchool! How about learning Spanish? In high school, I took Spanish 2 in summer school as I felt more immersion each day would help me learn and remember. OK, in reality, I didn’t like Spanish class and taking it in a compressed and shortened time frame seemed like a good idea to me. Well that was over “hacecuarenta anos”. From that class, I still can say “Pasar la mantequilla, por favor”. Want to learn more about careers in the outdoors? There’s a camp for that. Backpacking camp. Check. Build your skills in Potions, Broom Flying, Herbology. Seriously, yep, that’s an option. Grow and cook food. Oh, did I forget to mention sports camps. All the major sports are represented. Want to hone your baseball skills or learn fencing? Master that ground stroke? Learn about the “kitchen” area in pickleball? Just sign up. When I started exploring this topic, I had no idea of the breadth of opportunity that awaits. There are literally too many choices to mention. And you can learn how to do the freestyle and backstroke; just like when I was a kid.

With so many camp options, noticeably absent is the “Do you want to be a Realtor?” camp. With approximately 1.5 million Realtors in the USA at last count, there must be a camp somewhere. Oh well, if you want to be a Realtor, just reach out.

As we move into the unofficial start of summer, I’ll be at “open house” camp each weekend. Haha! It’s where I wait patiently and help buyers understand the sellers’ home. It’s really quitefascinating.

With residential real estate in the news of late, the local real estate market is doing well. Comparing data through April 2024 compared the same period in 2023, Folsom is quite interesting. The average price of a home sold in Folsom through April 2024 is $861,000, up significantly compared to same period of 2023 when average sold price was at $730,000. And other key indicators are up as well. Sales price to list price ratio is up to just over 100%. There are more homes for sale. Not shown in this data is a burst of homes that entered the market in mid May. And there are about 10% more homes sold in this period as compared to 2023 and they’re selling more quickly. El Dorado Hills (EDH) statistics are not as strong as Folsom. Interestingly, El Dorado Hills has sold more homes this year compared to same period last year too. But far less were sold in EDH than sold in Folsom while far more homes in EDH were for sale than Folsom. The average price of a sold home through April 2024 in EDH is around $1,044,000, down from $1,074,000 through same period in 2023. Sales price to list price ratio is also up but is just under 100%. We look forward to an exciting local real estate market as we move into the summer months.

I love where I live. I’m excited to continue to help more families in 2024 with their real estate needs. With proper planning and a good Realtor (Luckily, I know a really good one….), you can smoothly get to your next stage in life.
