Officials from California State Parks and the Folsom Lake Recreation Area concluded their search Monday afternoon after locating the body of a swimmer who went missing Sunday evening after fishing and swimming in the area, according to information from California State Parks.
According to California State Park officials, they were notified shortly after 7:00 p.m. Sunday of a 53-year-old man who went missing after last being seen near Beal’s Point, near Granite Bay. Upon responding to the scene Sunday night, officers began the search by boat and with the use of divers, as well as along area shorelines, but were forced to discontinue their search efforts at nightfall.
On Monday, state park officials and deputies with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department, with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department which patrols Folsom Dam, resumed the search.
Monday afternoon, California State Parks located the man’s body in the water. At the time, the name is not being released pending investigation by the county coroner and notification of all family members. The man was reportedly last seen in the water between 3 and 4 p.m. Sunday, according to updated information provided by California State Park Chief Ranger Barry Smith. According to Smith, the family reported that he was not wearing a life jacket and was considered to be an avid swimmer, according to family members who alerted authorities. A paddleboard and a fishing rod were located in the water prior to locating the body.
“State Parks offers its condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the individual,” reads a statement issued by California State Parks Monday afternoon. The investigation will continue by the coroner’s office.
